A Note from AJT's Board President:
Dear Members and Friends,
It’s almost time for Purim. Purim is the holiday I describe to my non-Jewish friends as Halloween meets St. Patrick’s Day (meets Easter, too, I guess, if you count Purim gift baskets…). However you describe it, it’s a time for celebration. For me, Purim’s bacchanalia outshines even Simchat Torah (when we celebrate finishing and immediately restarting the reading of the Torah). And why are we partying so hard? Not to honor a religious milestone, or a great ancestor, or a huge military victory. No, we’re celebrating a moment when Jews cleverly undermined a would-be tyrant, exposed him, and held him accountable for his criminal plans.
I suspect I’m going to really relish eating those Hamantaschens this year…
I’m also going to relish our upcoming programming this month – from our latest Member Meet-Up to our very exciting Purim and Women’s History Month-inspired panel, From Esther to Today: Jewish Women Shaping Theatre. AJT Board Member Dan Tater has put together an impressive panel that will be hosted/moderated by Jennifer Apple, actress and popular podcaster. See below for more details on the event and the panelists.
Meanwhile, if you’re a member, I hope you’ll start or continue to utilize the listserv. It’s getting more and more active there, and it’s lovely to see the community in conversation with each other! The AJT Listserv is a great place to share victories, offer discounts to local Members for your work, seek advice, and more. Reach out to admin@alljewishtheatre.org if you need assistance signing up.
See you all at an event soon!
Best,
Jesse Bernstein
